In quiet moments, she would look inward to the visual arts. Expressing with her hands through drawing, painting and crafting was a diversion that allowed her to be more peaceful and contemplative. When she was a teenager, her family moved to Southern California and her singing and dancing continued. Though she didn’t get to do much art then, she never lost the love of creating with her hands. Xenia studied fine arts at the University of Colorado in Boulder. But after college, life took her on a different path and her art pursuits were put on the back burner for over a decade. When she turned forty, with a renewed focus on painting with pastels, she furthered her art education by taking workshops with prominent artists such as Liz Haywood-Sullivan, Doug Dawson, Lorenzo Chavez and Bruce Gomez. She began exhibiting in 2013 and has since been juried into several prestigious exhibitions, including the Pastel Society of Colorado’s (PSC) Mile High International Pastel Exhibition and the Plein Air Artists of Colorado’s (PAAC) National Juried Exhibition, and has garnered awards for her paintings. |
